Antonio Conte was already thinking of his next job when he decided to leave Inter, a report in the Italian media revealed today.

La Stampa’s print edition claimed Conte’s interest from Tottenham Hotspur played a role in persuading him to part company with the Nerazzurri last week.

Spurs made contact with Conte before he left Inter and he spotted the opportunity to secure another top-level salary in the Premier League.

Conte will be on high wages again if he becomes Tottenham’s head coach, which will be added to the €7.5 million payoff he got from Inter after opting not to resign.

Inter confirmed Conte’s replacement today after finally announcing the appointment of former Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi on a two-year deal.

Inzaghi has already spoken with club directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio and visited Inter’s offices and training complex earlier, with pre-season due to begin at the start of July.
