Inter’s Nicolo Barella could use the UEFA European Championships this summer as an opportunity to become an elite mezzala, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by Repubblica, Nicolo Barella showed that he can become one of the world’s best mezzala’s under Roberto Mancini’s guidance.

The Inter midfielder put in an excellent performance in Italy’s tournament preparation friendly against the Czech Republic on Friday night.

The Azzurri cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over the Czech Republic. Nicolo Barella scored Italy’s second goal, with the others being scored by Ciro Immobile, Lorenzo Insigne, and Domenico Berardi.

Repubblica gave the 24-year-old a rating of 7 out of 10, showing that he played very well but he’s capable of so much more.

Roberto Mancini may look to use Nicolo Barella on the left or right-hand side of a midfield three because his dribbling ability and endless running mean he suits a wider, more creative role.
