New Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has promised star-striker Romelu Lukaku that he will be Serie A’s top scorer next season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi made the promise to Romelu Lukaku during a phone call.

There had been rumours that the Belgian striker was thinking of leaving Inter due to the departure of Antonio Conte and the club’s commitment to sell some key players.

Simone Inzaghi contacted the ex-Manchester United and Chelsea forward though to convince him to stay with the Nerazzurri. It seems likely that Achraf Hakimi will be the player to depart instead.

Many are pleased with the effective man-management that Simone Inzaghi has already shown despite only very recently becoming the Inter boss.

Simone Inzaghi has previous experience of managing a player to be the league’s top scorer, as Italy striker Ciro Immobile did during his time at Lazio.
