Inter president Steven Zhang has been discussing the issues that led to Antonio Conte leaving the club at the end of the season, in an Italian broadcast report.
Speaking during an interview with Sky Sports, Steven Zhang was clear that he and Antonio Conte had very different opinions on how the upcoming transfer window should be dealt with.
“The coaches have a different vision, Conte particularly wants to win. He has a different approach to the transfer market, a different vision from ours as regards the club in the long term.”
Antonio Conte left Inter and is now looking for a new job. He recently turned down an approach from Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Lazio’s Simone Inzaghi was poached by Inter very quickly and now he will lead Inter into the 2021/22 season.
Steven Zhang stressed in the interview that Inter are not the only club in a position of having to reduce the wage bill and raise money from player sales. Inter need to knock 15% off the wage budget and raise around €80 million from sales. Achraf Hakimi looks likely to be the highest-profile departure.
“The pandemic has brought difficulties for the clubs and for the entire football system, and one thing we have to keep time with because one of our goals in this context, regardless of the coronavirus, like all the other clubs that are facing this situation, it is to reduce costs. Make sure our accounts are sound.”
