Inter want Samir Handanovic to have competition for his place in goal next season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri were looking for a ‘first-choice’ goalkeeper who can put the Slovenian under pressure, before becoming his successor.

Inter have already secured a deal to re-sign Alex Cordaz, but it remains unclear if he will be their second or third-choice goalkeeper.

If nobody else comes in this summer, Cordaz will be Handanovic’s understudy with Andrei Radu set to leave either on loan or permanently.

Cordaz is due to complete his return to Inter imminently, but there is no medical scheduled for today like other reports might have suggested.

Inter have a big decision to make regarding Handanovic’s future at the club, after another error-prone season which thankfully did not cost them the Serie A title.

The 36-year-old has one year left on his current deal in Milan.
