Matias Vecino could be given yet another season at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media.

Calciomercato.com said Vecino was increasingly likely to stay with the Nerazzurri, despite being out of contract in the summer of 2022.

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi wants to assess the midfielder and is convinced he can revive Vecino’s fortunes in Milan, after a season in which he made just nine appearances due to injury issues.

Vecino has been a solid and efficient option for Inter over the years, most notably when he scored against Inzaghi’s Lazio on the final day of the 2017-18 Serie A season to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.

Inzaghi is assessing the futures of all Inter’s squad players and it looks like Vecino isn’t the only one who will get a second chance.

Ashley Young was due to leave but Inzaghi likes the English wing-back, so he is also moving towards staying at Inter after months of reports suggesting that he would depart.

Danilo D’Ambrosio and Andrea Ranocchia also have a chance of staying, with Inter looking to keep together most of the group that showed great unity during their off-field turmoil last season.
