With the contract situations of many Inter squad members including Ashley Young and Danilo D’Ambrosio currently being dealt with, it is thought that the status of defender Andrea Ranocchia is next on the agenda.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport report that Ranocchia is close to an extension, on a salary of €1 million plus bonuses.

The veteran defender’s proposed renewal follows the unilateral triggering of an extension clause in compatriot Danilo D’ambrosio’s contract by Inter, and the one-year extension offer extended to Ashley Young.

The 33-year-old Italian defender has made a total of 359 appearances for Inter since joining the club in the summer of 2010.

During the last season, the Italian veteran only made eight Serie A appearances under Antonio Conte, but this was still enough to earn him his first Scudetto with the club, and has seemingly impressed the club hierarchy and incoming head coach Simone Inzaghi sufficiently that he is seen as an important squad member for next season.
