It is thought that a deal that would see Inter midfielder depart for Sporting CP on a permanent basis is very close, but there are still some details to be negotiated.

Today’s print edition of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report that the two clubs have nearly come together on a valuation, but not quite.

The 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder is keen to return to Sporting permanently after a fruitful loan spell last season, and both clubs have intentions to make the deal permanent as soon as possible.

Inter initially valued the player at €10 million while Sporting’s initial offer was €6 million; the understanding is that Inter are now demanding €8 million with the Portuguese club edging up to €7 million on the fee.

Sporting may use Inter’s financial situation and need to gain income through transfers as leverage as the deal gets over the line, and will hope that Inter will budge on the fee given that the Nerazzurri will also be getting Mario’s €3 million salary off of their books.
