Italian agent Giocondo Martorelli has described new Inter boss Simone Inzaghi as “heir” to Antonio Conte, and suggested that the Champions League this season represents an opportunity for the exciting tactician to “demonstrate his real value” to the club.

In an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb, Martorelli suggests that progression in the Champions League will be a key objective for Inter next season, and would be one way in which Inzaghi could actually take the club forward from the accomplishments of his predecessor.

Martorelli expressed his approval of Inzaghi as a choice to continue Conte’s work with the Nerazzurri.

The agent notes that “Conte leaves an extraordinary group,” and that this means that there is pressure on Inzaghi to succeed.

During Inzaghi’s two seasons in charge at Inter, the club twice failed to progress from the group stage if the Champions League, having also failed to do so in the season under Luciano Spalletti prior to Conte’s arrival; Inzaghi guided Lazio to the round of sixteen of last year’s competition by contrast.
