Chelsea have an option to unilaterally extend Inter target Italian international wing-back Emerson Palmieri’s contract by a further 12 months.

This according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato.com who report that similarly to the situation with French international striker Olivier Giroud when AC Milan came calling, Chelsea may have inserted a clause which allows them to extend players contracts by 12 months.

One of the primary reasons that the clause is inserted into the contracts of Chelsea players is that the club wish to prevent players from being transferred to domestic rivals at low fees, or risk losing them as free tarnsfers.

Palmieri’s contract expires at the end of June 2022 which could make him an attractive target for Inter, but if Chelsea are to exercise the clause extending his contract, it may make reaching an agreement more difficult.

However, Chelsea will likely be amenable to reaching a reasonable agreement with the Nerazurri over the player, it is thought.
