Inter’s Nicolo Barella is among the most well-rounded young midfielders at the Euros, according to former Azzurri star Emanuele Giaccherini.
In an interview with Italian broadcaster Libero, the Italian veteran, currently playing for Chievo Verona, shared his thoughts on the qualities of the Italian national team ahead of the upcoming Euros, and singled out the young Inter midfielder for special praise.
“Nicolo has physicality, technique, and a good sense of timing,” Giaccherini explained, “even if he is not a giant he makes himself felt in the midfield on a physical level.”
It is these qualities which make Giaccherini believe that Barella can become a special player for both club and country.
The former international also rated the chances for the Italian national team highly for the tournament, stating that “We can go all the way” thanks to the squad’s good balance of technical and physical qualities, and of youth and experience, both of which Barella exemplifies.
Giaccherini made 29 appearances and scored four goals for the Azzurri over his career, and appeared in the quarter-final of the 2016 edition of the tournament against Germany; he is also remembered for his contributions at Juventus where he won the scudetto twice.
