Chelsea could unilaterally activate an option to extend Inter and Napoli target Emerson Palmieri’s contract by a year, Italian broadcaster reports.

According to a report by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia aired earlier this afternoon, should Chelsea exercise this clause as they did with striker Olivier Giroud, it may become more difficult for Inter to sign the 27-year-old Italian.

Emerson is said to be tracked by Napoli as well as Inter, and the player is reportedly amenable to a move to the Giuseppe Meazza as this would likely see him get more playing time than he has at Chelsea.

However, Inter’s plans to take advantage to the fact that the Italian has only one year on his contract to force the Blues to sell him at a lower fee could fail to work if the London club extend his contract by one year until the end of June 2023.

The Blues exercised this same extension in the case of French striker Olivier Giroud to prevent the Nerazzurri’s city rivals AC Milan from signing him.

Emerson will be at the Euros with Italy with the Azzurri’s tournament beginning with a group stage match today against Turkey, but Italy manager Roberto Mancini is said to have advised him to seek a move to receive more playing time.
