Sven-Goran Eriksson has been discussing new Inter boss Simone Inzaghi’s chances of success at Inter after he took over from Antonio Conte, as has been reported by the Italian media today.

Speaking during his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport this weekend, Sven-Goran Eriksson took questions about the job Simone Inzaghi has on his hands, and who the key players will be for the Nerazzurri next season.

The Swede believes that Simone Inzaghi had no choice but to take the Intr job when Steven Zhang came knocking, despite the fact he had looked set to sign a contract extension at Lazio. He had been in charge of the Biancocelesti since 2016.

“It is never easy to take over a team that has just won the Scudetto, but it is also a great opportunity for his career. Inter are historically the top both in Italy and in Europe: he couldn’t say no, despite every possible risk.”

When talking about which players will be key for Simone Inzaghi at Inter, Sven-Goran Eriksson highlighted Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, comparing him to Lazio forward Ciro Immobile.

“I observed Lukaku with great interest already in England, he seemed very strong but not so prolific. Now he has grown a lot, he has become a player who helps his teammates and does not think only about scoring goals.”

Sven-Goran Eriksson also praised Simone Inzaghi for overachieving whilst at Lazio, as he turned the team into genuine title contenders at one stage.

“In this era, it is really difficult to do well at Lazio, yet last year he was close to the title. I really like his personal style.”
