A former Belgium coach has heaped praise upon Inter striker Romelu Lukaku after his first two goals of Euro 2020 last night, according to a report in the Belgian broadcast media today.

Georges Leekens showed he had nothing but admiration during the interview with Belgian broadcaster VoetbalNieuws, where he claimed that Romelu Lukaku has become a world star since his move to Inter.

“He has made progress in Italy, he has truly become a phenomenon. In Italy he has shown everyone to be an absolute world star.”

Romelu Lukaku got off to the perfect start in Euro 2020 by scoring two goals in Belgium’s 3-0 win over Russia in St Petersburg. His two goals came either side of a strike from Thomas Meunier.

It is no secret that Romelu Lukaku wants to win the golden boot at this summer’s European Championship, but Georges Leekens believes the striker needs to not put too much pressure on himself.

“Romelu wants to shine in the European Championship. He really lives for football, but you have to be careful not to get crushed by too much pressure. Known as a little boy as a very perfectionist person who always wants more.”

The final thing that Georges Leekensadded when discussing Belgium’s star striker is that he has every asset that an elite striker needs now.

“In Belgium we often look at a player’s flaws, but Lukaku has shown that he is also technically strong. He is a complete striker: ability to score, strength, speed, technical ability, depth.”
