An ex-Inter president has been discussing the departure of Antonio Conte from the club, and how the current ownership is performing, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.
Whilst giving an interview to Sette, part of Corriere dello Sport, Massimo Moratti suggested that there was no way to fix the relationship between Antonio Conte and the Inter board, which is why he felt compelled to walk away.
Antonio Conte became unhappy with the club’s directors after they revealed the need to sell €80 million worth of talent and cut the wage bill 15%. The coach, who had just won the Scudetto, felt he could not challenge for the Champions League under these conditions and decided to leave the club.
“A gap had arisen between the coach and the club. But with Conte, the team has made a qualitative leap, has become aware of its strength, has acquired a new personality.”
Massimo Moratti also discussed how Steven Zhang is performing in his role. It appears that the two still speak regularly, but it is clear that Steven Zhang is making his own decisions.
“He is a kind, humble and intelligent boy. He updates me on what he is doing but has clear ideas and is never obsessive.”
