The potential contract renewal of Marcelo Brozovic is not as straightforward as it may have first seemed, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, the Inter midfielder’s contract runs out in June 2022. He would like to remain with the Nerazzurri, and new coach Simone Inzaghi definitely wants to keep him around as he has been an integral part of the midfield under both Luciano Spalletti and Antonio Conte.

The club has made it clear though that every player in the squad is effectively for sale, providing the asking prices are met. With the contract running out next year, they either need to get Marcelo Brozovic signed to a new deal or sell him in this window. Otherwise, they risk losing him for free in 2022.

The difficulty is that his current salary is €3.5 million a year, and he wants that to be increased to €5 million a year.
