Inter are looking for a left-sided defender to replace outgoing Aleksandr Kolarov in Simone Inzaghi’s squad to ensure adequate depth behind first-choice Alessandro Bastoni, and now look likely to bring in Lazio’s Stefan Radu to fill the position.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the Nerazzurri are making progress on a deal for the Romanian, and could close in on a deal this week.

The Nerazzurri must replace Kolarov’s contributions with the Serbian’s departure thought to be imminent with the club willing to release him this summer.

The 35-year-old formerly of Lazio, Manchester City, and Roma played most of his minutes last season in the left-sided center-back role within then-Inter coach Antonio Conte’s system, and Radu has a good profile to replace him, it is thought.

The 34-year-old Romanian has extensive experience working with coach Simone Inzaghi having played under him at Lazio for the last five seasons prior to the Italian’s departure, and would not take much time to adjust to the new Inter tactician’s system or methods.

Italian international Alessandro Bastoni is still considered to be first-choice in the left-sided role in the defense, but the 22-year-old will require backup and Inter are thought to be targeting a total of six defenders for three positions for the beginning of next season.
