Inter defender Milan Skriniar believes that the most essential games to the Nerrazzuri’s path to the scudetto last season were the crucial head-to-head encounters against direct rivals Milan, Atalanta, and Juventus.

Interviewed for the documentary “I M TOGETHER” on Inter’s official YouTube channel, the Slovak talked about the significance of games against direct rivals for Inter’s Serie A campaign last season.

Antonio Conte’s side picked up ten points against the three other clubs in Serie A’s top four last season, beating each once, which allowed the Nerazzurri to pull ahead of their direct rivals despite each one having periods of very strong form throughout the season.

Not only that, but the matches gave the Inter players a sense of belief that carried over to matches against teams from elsewhere in the league table.

Inter’s title triumph showed a versatility and ability to win in both games that the team was expected to win, and hugely significant matches against direct rivals, giving opponents no opportunities to catch them.

“The direct clashes we won against Juventus, Milan, and Atalanta gave us confidence, those were the moments in which we decided the season,” Skriniar said.

He continued: “We have always been united, that was fundamental. We are a great group.”
