Inter defender Stefan de Vrij considers his colleague Milan Skriniar to be a defender of the very highest level.

In an unpublished interview conducted during the making of the “I M TOGETHER” documentary, reported on Italian news outlet FCInterNews, the Dutch defender was full of praise for his Slovak partner.

De Vrij, Skriniar, and Italian international Alessandro Bastoni were the trio who most commonly started in the backline in front of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic for Antonio Conte’s side last season.

The group were highly formidable defensively, conceding only 35 goals across the season (less than one goal per game), which was the best defense in the league and vital to the Nerazzurri’s title success.

However, de Vrij does not think too highly of himself and his own contributions, but prefers to heap praise on his teammate, 26-year-old Skriniar.

He talks about the Slovak’s physical strength as well as his strength of character in detailing the significance of his contributions at the Giusepe Meazza.

“Milan is always Milan,” de Vrij says of his teammate, “He has made important steps, he has improved a lot: this year he has been a rock.”

“He stops all comers, in one-on-one situations he is very strong. You can’t get past him.”

He closed by adding: “For us it is a pleasure to grow together, by now we know each other a lot better. We talk a lot on the pitch.”
