Napoli have joined Inter in the race for Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri, with the Italian thought to be a top target of Luciano Spalletti.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport report that the incoming Napoli tactician wants to work with Emerson having also worked with him at Roma, but that the Neapolitan club could face obstacles.

It is thought that the primary obstacle towards bringing the player to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona concerns his wages, which are around €4.5 million net annually.

The transfer fee being demanded by Chelsea is thought to be €12 million, although in the case of Inter it is possible that the player could also be offered as part of a deal for Achraf Hakimi.

Former Inter and Zenit Saint Petersburg coach prefers the 27-year-old to other reported Napoli targets Reinildo Mandava of Lille and Gabriel Gudmundsson of Groningen, and Napoli have a good relationship with Chelsea.

However, the Nerazzurri could still have the advantage in the chase for Palmieri in that they would be more able to accomodate his current wages, in addition to having Chelsea’s interest in Hakimi as a bargaining chip.
