Belgium could decide to rest Inter striker Romelu Lukaku for their test against Finland on Monday night, according to head coach Roberto Martinez.
Speaking in a press conference, Roberto Martinez suggested that given Belgium have won both of their opening two group games at Euro 2020, he may rest his star striker to keep him fresh for the latter stages of the tournament.
“Romelu is at his best when he can play every game, but we have to see if he has recovered physically enough. If his values are good, he can play from the first minute.”
Belgium are in a privileged position for the Finland clash as they have already qualified for the round of 16. It makes sense to keep Romelu Lukaku fresh for the tougher tests that are to come, but the Inter man will definitely have the golden boot in his mind.
He scored twice in the opening game against Russia, but failed to find the net against Denmark despite his team winning 2-1. In order to win the golden boot it is common for the player to have scored more than two goals in the group stages.
