Napoli could be set to beat Inter to the signing of Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri this summer, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have emerged as the frontrunners to acquire the services of Emerson Palmieri despite the obvious interest from Inter.

It is believed that Emerson Palmieri would rather play as part of a back four rather than be a wing-back in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system.

Luciano Spalletti is likely to use a back four when he takes over at Napoli, and the best spell of Emerson Palmieri’s career so far came at Roma whilst Luciano Spalletti was in charge.

Inter are unwilling to pay the €20 million that Chelsea want for the Italian defender, having most recently offered only €10 million. There is a chance though that Emerson Palmieri could be used as part of a deal for Achraf Hakimi.
