Sporting Lisbon have not contacted Inter midfielder Joao Mario since May despite seeming close to a transfer, according to a report in the Portuguese media today.

As has been reported by Portuguese outlet Record, Sporting Lisbon have not actually been in direct contact with Joao Mario since May, which is unusual given it seemed a transfer of the midfielder to the Portuguese club was a matter of days away until talks broke down.

Inter wanted €7.5 million for Joao Mario and were committed to not standing in the players way as long as the correct amount of money is offered. Sporting Lisbon were not willing to go any higher than €4 million with €1.5 million worth of bonuses.

Joao Mario is now evaluated other options as he definitely wants to leave the San Siro this season. Spartak Moscow, Besiktas, Villareal, and Nice have all been touted as possible destinations for the player to explore.
