Inter are trying to sign Turkish international midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer from cross town rivals AC Milan.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia’s transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio who moments ago on air reported that the Nerazzurri have contacted the Turkish players representatives.

Furthermore, Di Marzio reports on this homepage that Calhanoglu will not extend his contract with AC Milan who in turn have decided to focus on trying to sign Mattia Zaccagni from Hellas Verona.

This follows reports in Italian media in the last week that the former Bayer Leverkusen player’s agents had contacted Inter to discuss a transfer to the Nerazzurri after talks with AC Milan over a contract extension have not taken off.

In conclusion Di Marzio reports that given the uncertainty surrounding Christian Eriksen’s future, Inter have decided to move forward to not risk finding themselves lacking attacking midfield options.

Calhanoglu joined AC Milan from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017 and has since then featured 172 times across all competitions scoring 32 times in the process.
