New Barcelona forward Memphis turned down more financially lucrative offers from multiple clubs before signing for the Catalan club, according to a report in the Spanish media today.

As has been reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Dutch forward turned down proposals from Inter, Juventus, and Paris Saint Germain who all would have paid him more money than Barcelona will be giving him.

The ex-Manchester United player was previously playing for Olympique Lyonnais in France, but his contract was running out this summer. He decided to sign a two-year deal with Barcelona on a free transfer after much speculation.

According to the Spanish reports, Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman was the decisive factor in making him choose Barcelona over a bigger paycheck elsewhere.

The two Dutchmen worked together as part of the national team set up meaning they already have a good working relationship. Barcelona was until recently chasing Inter’s Lautaro Martinez.
