The Croatian Football Federation has confirmed through their Twitter account that Inter winger Ivan Perisic has tested positive for COVID-19, meaning he will miss their EURO 2020 round of 16 game.
Croatia are set to play Spain on Monday afternoon in the round of 16 after they qualified from a group containing England, the Czech Republic, and Scotland. Ivan Perisic will now certainly miss that game, and if Croatia manage to beat Luis Enrique’s side, he will miss the quarter-final too.
Whilst Ivan Perisic’s health is of utmost importance, this news will trouble Inter because they want Ivan Perisic to impress potential buyers so they can offload him from the club’s wage bill. He is now unlikely to play at the tournament again.
Inter need to reduce their player wage bill by 15% this summer, as well as raising at least 70 million from player sales. Ivan Perisic has been highlighted as a player to be sold.
