Philippe Countinho could make a return to Inter this summer as Barcelona look to trim their player wage bill, according to a report in the Spanish print media today.

As has been reported by Catalan newspaper Sport, the ex-Inter midfielder is apparently very keen on returning to the Nerazzurri where he played before the move to Liverpool that turned him into a star.

Barcelona are in known financial difficulties and the Brazilian midfielder occupies a large part of their wage bill. They need to trim that wage bill in order to facilitate the contract renewal of Lionel Messi. Philippe Coutinho has never impressed in Barcelona after his £142 million move from Liverpool.

The Nerazzurri are reportedly entertaining the idea, but they would need the player to take a wage cut as they cannot afford what he currently earns. Any deal would likely be a loan with an option to buy should things go well.
