Inter’s next steps in the transfer market are to tie down contracts for midfield duo Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, the impending sale of Achraf Hakimi has freed the Nerazzurri to explore other objectives within the transfer market. The first of those objectives is to tie down two of their star midfielders to long-term contracts to protect their value.

Nicolo Barella is fast becoming one of the most talked-about midfielders in European football, with clubs such as Liverpool being linked with the Sardinian. Although the ex-Cagliari player’s contract does not expire until 2024, the club wish to reward him for his remarkable form in the Scudetto winning season.

As for Marcelo Brozovic, the club must strike a deal this summer or risk losing him for free in 2022 when his deal runs out. He is asking for a wage increase that the club are not sure about providing.
