Atalanta midfielder Matteo Pessina is taking the opportunity that the injury to Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi afforded him for the Italian national team, according to a report in the Italian media.

As has been reported by Sky Sport, Atalanta have no plans to sell the midfielder despite the sudden inflated interest in him after two goals at the UEFA European Championships.

Matteo Pessina only found himself in the squad because Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi got injured in the run-up to the tournament. Many people believed that the Atalanta man should have been in the squad instead of Stefano Sensi because of his poor injury record.

Matteo Pessina scored in the group stage for Roberto Mancini’s side against Wales to secure a 1-0 win to finish the group stage, and then he scored the crucial second goal against Austria in extra time to secure Italy’s passage to the Euro 2020 quarterfinals.

Italy play Belgium in the next round.
