Ex-Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga has said that Hakan Calhanoglu found himself in the right place at the right time when moving to Inter from AC Milan, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.
Whilst speaking to the Twitch channel Ocwsport, Walter Zenga suggested that the signing of Hakan Calhanoglu was an opportunistic move for both Inter and the player given the situation with Christian Eriksen.
Following his cardiac arrest on the pitch in Copenhagen for Denmark, Christian Eriksen is now recovering at his home in Odense. It is not clear when or if he will be able to play for Inter again, so the club had to act fast in the transfer window.
The Nerazzurri decided to sign AC Milan attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer, and Walter Zenga believes the player found himself in the right place at the right time, as it’s a move that probably would not have happened.
“When Eriksen has a problem, and thank goodness he should be okay, Inter finds itself with an important hole in the squad. He [Calhanoglu] is free, and then he has more or less those characteristics. Calhanoglu has found himself in the right place at the right time. Inter will have asked Simone Inzaghi and he will have given his yes, then ethically speaking to go from one side of the city itself is a bit complicated.”
