Antonio Conte has given his thoughts on the improvement shown by Inter and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku in recent seasons.
Speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, as reported by FCInterNews, the departed Inter manager spoke about his time with Lukaku together at the Nerazzurri.
Conte and Lukaku both joined the club in the summer of 2019, with the 28-year-old thought to have been a player specifically requested by the manager, who had admired him for years.
In the first of the pair’s two seasons at the Giuseppe Meazza, Inter finished second in Serie A, and then last season, the club went one better by winning their first Scudetto in eleven years.
Apart from the team achievements, Lukaku’s individual form in Milan has been outstanding, with the Belgian having finished last season top of the league in combined goals and assists.
The tactical instruction of Conte is often credited for some of the player’s improvement, and the former Nerazzurri head coach gives his thoughts on his relationship with the in-form Belgian:
“How did I work with him? Romelu, today, is one of the best strikers in the world. He always had immense physical and athletic qualities, but during the past two years together we have seen him grow even more in terms of presence on the pitch, teamwork, and composure in front of goal.”
Conte gives Nerazzurri supporters reason for optimism for even greater improvement in the future from Lukaku, closing by saying that “The nice thing is that he still has a lot of room for improvement.”
