Inter are set to begin work on renewing the contract of midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, who new head coach Simone Inzaghi considers a vital player.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the club will look to have negotiations wrapped up by the end of the summer.
The 28-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of June 2022, but the Nerazzurri do not want to let the player enter the final season of his contract with his future uncertain.
With the player having been a vital contributor in recent seasons, and set to be a highly-valued player under Inzaghi, keeping him on at the club is a priority.
There is also thought to be interest in the player from other top European clubs, although it is not yet known the extent of what could be offered to the player, or the player’s attitude towards any potential offers.
The player, for his part, is hoping to get the maximum financial compensation from what could prove to be one of his last major contracts, with the Croatian thought to be targeting the compensation received by recent Nerazzurri signing Hakan Calhanoglu as a reward for his quality shown at the club.
Talks will resume with the 28-year-old when he returns from his holidays, having been eliminated from the Euros with Croatia, and the club will hope to have the matter settled as quickly as possible.
