An Italian journalist has bestowed the highest order of praise on Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella after his excellent goal against Belgium in the Euro 2020 quarter-final, according to a report in the Italian media.

Whilst writing for Corriere della Sera, Mario Sconcerti showed how much he enjoyed the goal of Nicolo Barella as well as the whole Italian performance.

Nicolo Barella opened the scoring in the 2-1 win over Belgium by dancing through two defenders in the box and lashing the ball across Thibaut Courtois and into the bottom-left corner of the goal.

“The last of the story are Barella and Verratti, one inside a goal from Maradona, the other everywhere and always with intelligence.”

Lorenzo Insigne put Italy 2-0 up with a wonderful long-range effort that has become his signature move, but Inter forward Romelu Lukaku pulled a goal back for the Belgians on the stroke of halftime. Italy held out to reach a semi-final against Spain on 6th July.

Mario Sconcerti was so impressed by the overall performance from Roberto Mancini’s side that he felt t necessary to thank him.

“I am happy. It happens a few times that a reporter can say it, but I am excited and thank you.”
