Matias Vecino looks set to stay at Inter, with head coach Simone Inzaghi admiring the Uruguayan and wanting him in the squad for next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper la Repubblica, who report that the manager has asked the Nerazzurri not to put Vecino up for sale in the summer.

The 29-year-old endured a frustrating 2020-21 season, with his appearances restricted due to injury, and was not a major contributor to the Scudetto-winning season.

With interest in the player coming in from several clubs, it is thought that the Nerazzurri could look to cash in on him this summer.

However, Inzaghi is an admirer of the former Empoli and Fiorentina midfielder’s qualities, and hopes to have him as an option for next season as he looks to maximize the players at his disposal and get his new Inter project off to the right start despite budgetary restrictions in the transfer market.
