Former Inter goalkeeper Ivano Bordon has given his thoughts on what the next season could hold for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciostyle.it, the 70-year-old expressed confidence in the ability of new head coach Simone Inzaghi to steer the club in the right direction.

Furthermore, the former goalkeeper believes that Nerazzurri Number One Samir Handanovic is still a reliable option in goal and will be a major asset to the club as they look to defend last season’s Scudetto.

Handanovic has been excellent since joining the club in 2012, and has cemented himself as a fan favourite, but the Slovenian turns 37 this month and some have questioned whether his powers may be on the wane.

It is believed that the Nerazzurri are searching for a long-term replacement for the current first-choice keeper, but Bordon is happy with him for next season, and still believes that the keeper has plenty left to give.

His words on Inzaghi:

“Inzaghi is a very good coach who has shown in Lazio that he has made the team play well for years, and has achieved important goals. Taking the place of Antonio Conte will not be easy but he has already lived in an environment in Rome, which was not easy since he had some problems, but I think he is mature to manage the difficulties that he will encounter at Inter, given that replacing a coach who won the Scudetto is not easy.”

On Handanovic, he said:

“I think Handanovic will still be first-choice this year, even if Inter will have to buy a new goalkeeper in the future, but I repeat that this year the owner will still be the Slovenian.”
