Inter are financially unable to renew the contract of Stefan De Vrij despite there being a desire from all parties to get the deal done, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported today by Calciomercato.com, it has become clear to the Nerazzurri that many top European clubs are starting to take a serious look at the Dutch centre-back who is a key part of Inter’s side.

Stefan De Vrij actually signed a new deal just a few months ago but it only runs until June 2023. This new interest in his services means Inter need to extend that further and deter interest.

The financial difficulties that are plaguing the club however mean that it is not possible to do the deal right now.

Simone Inzaghi is fully aware that Stefan De Vrij was a key component in Inter’s 2020/21 Serie A success so he will not want to operate without him.
