Legendary former Inter striker Sandro Mazzola has given his thoughts on the upcoming Scudetto race, with the Italian believing that Juventus will be the favourites ahead of Inter.

Speaking to the print edition of Italian magazine Soccermagazine, via L’Interista, the 78-year-old is not optimistic about his former club’s chances to defend their crown.

Despite the Nerazzurri’s strong season and convincing Scudetto win last season, many predict that the club will struggle to defend the title next season, with the departures of head coach Antonio Conte and wing-back Achraf Hakimi seen as major losses that will affect the club on the pitch.

Juventus, on the other hand, could bounce back from their first season in almost a decade without winning Serie A, with the club having sacked Andrea Pirlo as manager and replaced him with the returning Max Allegri, who returns to the club with which he has won five Scudetti already.

However, the title race will not be uncompetitive, with many other strong sides in the hunt as well, such as AC Milan and Atalanta, and Mazzola’s words come partly in the spirit of not wanting to jinx his former club by acting overconfident.

He states: “I think Juve are the favourites, I’m not saying Inter because that would bring bad luck.”
