Inter may now be the ones holding up Radja Nainggolan’s move to Cagliari because they want to make sure that Simone Inzaghi has enough cover in midfield before letting the Belgian leave, according to a report in the Italian print media.

As has been reported by Tuttosport, the issue of Radja Nainggolan wanting severance pay from Inter seems to have been settled by both parties.

Now the hold up is over Inter’s lack of centre midfielders heading into the 2021/22 season. There are questions marks over the fitness of many of Inter’s backup midfielders so the club are wary of giving Simone Inzaghi too thin of a squad to compete on multiple fronts.

Stefano Sensi is a quality player but struggles to stay fit. There is of course the complicated situation with Christian Eriksen where following his cardiac arrest, it is not clear if he will play again.

Matias Vecino and Roberto Gagliardini could be sold if bids come in.
