New Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has decided that he wants Alexis Sanchez to serve as backup to Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez next season, according to a report in the Italian print media.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi is trusting the Chilean forward to stay fit during the 2021/22 campaign and provide adequate backup to the existing strikeforce.

Alexis Sanchez struggled to stay fit during the first half of Inter’s Scudetto winning season under Antonio Conte but in the second half of the season, he was a very useful player to bring off the bench when either Romelu Lukaku or Lautaro Martinez were injured or struggling.

In order for the club to keep the ex-Manchester United, Barcelona, and Arsenal forward though, they need him to agree to have his €7 million a season salary spread over a longer timeframe to lighten the immediate load on Inter’s wage budget.
