Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez: “Long Time Since Argentina Last Won A Trophy But This Has To Be Our Objective”

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has spoken about how ambitions with the Argentine national team and his feelings of pride after winning the Copa America.

Speaking to Argentine newspaper Olé, as reported by FCInter1908, the 23-year-old explained that even though he is happy with the tournament win, he is already looking ahead to other successes with the national team.

Martinez has made it two major trophies for club and country with the 1-0 win in the Copa final over Brazil, having already won the Scudetto with the Nerazzurri.

The striker was integral to the Nerazzurri’s success, and he also established himself as an important member of Argentina’s starting eleven this summer.

The Copa win comes as a major vindication for the player, helping Argentina win their first major trophy since the 1993 edition of the Copa.

However, he has already shifted his focus to qualifying for next year’s World Cup, as he must also focus on defending the Scudetto earned last season with Inter.

His words:

“I am aware of what it means to wear this shirt, I will hang onto this medal, and will keep it for my whole life. It has been a long time since Argentina won a major title. Now we must aim to do. Our mentality must be to focus on the fact that we must qualify for the next World Cup.”
