Inter Vice President Javier Zanetti is keeping in touch with striker Lautaro Martinez, with the pair having discussed the player’s happiness at winning the Copa America with Argentina.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster Canal IP, as reported by FCInterNews, the Vice-President stated that his countryman reached out to him after the Copa triumph.

Martinez, like Zanetti before him, represents both the Nerazzurri and the Argentine national side, and Martinez has managed to achieve a major trophy with the Albiceleste, the team’s first since winning the Copa in the tournament’s 1993 edition.

Zanetti speakins about having observed the 23-year-old during his time at Inter, with the striker having arrived at the Giuseppe Meazza in the summer of 2017, and his words reflect a sense of pride at the player’s accomplishments for the Vice-President’s own former club and country.

The good relations between Martinez and the club hierarchy could be crucial as the Nerazzurri look to extend the striker’s contract, and the player’s contacts with Zanetti will be encouraging in this respect.

Zanetti’s words:

“We exchanged messages, I am very happy that he had the chance to be the Number Nine for the National team that achieved this title. I.ve watched his evolution at Inter, the kind of player he is on and off the pitch. After the Scudetto, he told me he was very excited about Copa America. The fact that he became champion makes me very happy for him and his family.”
