New Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has suggested that Inter may have played Lugano at the wrong point of their pre-season preparations despite the victory, according to a report in the Swiss broadcast media.

Whilst speaking to a Swiss TV channel, RSI, after the game, Simone Inzaghi expressed some concern that his players may have been stretched further than he would have liked during the match against FC Lugano.

Inter have only been training for a week and this match was their first under the new coach. FC Lugano on the other hand, begin their competitive league next Sunday. That means they are much further along the process of getting into a physically competitive shape for the next season.

“Maybe it was too early to play this match, but we were happy to come and have some great training. We have limited rotations because we have many players away. Someone has already had to play ninety minutes, against an organized team, which will start their championship on Sunday and therefore much ahead of us with the preparation.”

Inter were also without a host of senior players as they are still on holiday following their involvement in either Euro 2020 or Copa America.

They will start to return over the next couple of weeks.
