Former Catania Sporting Director Pietro Lo Monaco has given his thoughts on the upcoming Serie A title race, arguing that Inter will not be favourites to defend their crown from the past season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Marte, reported by napolimagazine.com, the former Sporting Director argued that the likeliest teams to win the Italian title next season are Juventus and Napoli.

Despite the success of last season, bringing the Scudetto to the Giuseppe Meazza for the first time in eleven years, many observes believe that the Nerazzurri could struggle to retain their title this season.

This is put down to the departure of head coach Antonio Conte and of wing0back Achraf Hakimi, losses which could potentially hurt the club’s quality enough that they are unable to win the Scudetto back-to-back after last season’s impressive campaign.

Nerazzurri fans will hope that Lo Monaco’s less-than-rosy prediction does not come true, and that the Nerazzurri will mshow the resilience and strength to win the Scudetto again ahead of the Bianconeri, the Partenopei, and others.

When asked about the Scudetto favourites, these were his words:

“Juventus, Napoli, Inter in my opinion will have a hard time coming back. Maybe Roma, should they make a Pharaonic transfer campaign, but we are always at the usual proposals. It intrigues me a lot to see how Lazio respond to the management of Sarri.”
