Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez has made his desire for “top player” wages clear in negotiations over a new contract with Inter, with the player’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2023.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the player is seeking wages commensurate to the quality of his performances, and an ambitious footballing project.

The 23-year-old’s current situation is not something which the Nerazzurri intend to rush, as his current deal takes him until the end of June 2023.

However, the club know that they will have to get his situation sorted out soon, and are hoping that they will be able to agree on a contract renewal with the striker which will secure his future at the Giuseppe Meazza.

The player, for his part, is not unhappy at Inter and has not tried to agitate for an exit, but it is known that multiple top clubs in Europe, particularly in Spain, are among his admirers and his head could be turned.

The Argentine’s stance is clear, and he feels that given the quality of his contributions to Inter, and the interest in him from elsewhere, he merits a significant wage increase, and it remains to be seen whether the Nerazzurri will be able to come to an agreement with the 23-year-old.
