Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has spoken about his expectations for next season, and on the state of the Nerazzurri squad.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, as reported by FCInter1908, the Dutchman gave his thoughts about being reunited with new Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi, with whom he worked at Lazio.

De Vrij was a Biancocelesti player when Inzaghi stepped up to the role of first team head coach from his position in the youth team, and the pair were at the club together until de Vrij left to join Inter in the summer of 2018.

The 29-year-old speaks highly of his former and current boss, believing that the Italian tactician has the right personal qualities and vision of football to lead the Nerazzurri to success going forward.

“It was very nice to find see him again, over the years at Lazio I found myself very well, I worked very well with him and I am happy with his arrival. I think he has a lot to offer us, he is a well-trained coach and he brings a nice atmosphere where everyone makes themselves available to do their best.”

De Vrij also gave his views on the Nerazzurri’s forward options, singling out Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku in particular:

“He is very strong, he has made great steps forward in recent years. Then with Lautaro, Alexis, and Pinamonti, we have very strong forwards.”

On the Nerazzurri’s defense of the Scudetto after winning it last year, the 29-year-old had this to say:

“We have to defend it on the pitch, and we can’t wait, we have a lot of confidence. We are a winning team, we won the Scudetto and we need to be aware of this. As I said before, we need to confirm ourselves.”

Lastly, de Vrij spoke about his teammates Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar, with whom he has formed a strong defensive unit under Antonio Conte, while they will hope can continue under Inzaghi:

“We speak to understand how to improve. We still have plenty of room for growth, and we want to do even better. I too can improve a lot. I can make myself even more aware, and be more present to help my teammates.”
