Inter winger Valentino Lazaro is not a target for Portuguese giants Benfica this summer, despite speculation pairing him with the club.

As reported by Portuguese outlet Record, suggestions that Lazaro turned down a two-year loan deal with Benfica are wide of the mark and an internal source at the club denied that the Lisbon outfit were interested in him.

It comes after his agent, Max Hagmayr, claimed that Lazaro wanted to remain with Inter but was considering approaches from elsewhere, including Benfica.

Despite this, reports in Portugal suggest that coach Jorge Jesus has no desire to bring the Austria international in and will focus attention on other transfer targets.

Lazaro joined Inter from Hertha Berlin in 2017 but has failed to establish himself in Serie A, with just 11 appearances in all competitions for the Nerazzurri.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Bundesliga, having previously represented Premier League club Newcastle United on a half-season loan in January 2020.
