Inter are hoping to make a breakthrough in negotiations to sign Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez by arranging a meeting with the Sardinian club this week.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are optimistic than a deal can be struck and will meet with representatives of Cagliari in midweek to thrash out the terms of an agreement.

Inter are looking to take the Uruguay international on an initial loan with an obligation to buy, but are attempting to negotiating the loan fee and other financial aspects.

Cagliari are looking for a substantial initial fee, with a deal structured in a similar manner to that which saw Nicolo Barella join Inter on loan in 2019 before signing permanently the following year. Inter, meanwhile, are reluctant to spend more than €2-3m on the loan.

Nandez has already agreed terms with Inter and will pen a four-year contract worth €3 million per season should the clubs find an arrangement.
