Inter have begun preparing for a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana and hope to make a breakthrough this week.

According to L’Interista.it, the Nerazzurri have identified the Cameroon international as a long-term replacement for captain Samir Handanovic and will meet with his agent, Albert Botiles, in the coming days in an effort to close in on his signature.

Onana has impressed in Amsterdam and helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title last season, but only has a year remaining on his contract and Inter want to reach an agreement as soon as possible to secure his services at the expiry of his deal.

The 25-year-old has spent his entire career at Ajax but appears set for an exit next summer, having previously drawn interest from Lyon and Arsenal.

Onana is currently serving a nine-month doping ban imposed by FIFA in February after failing a drugs test in October 2020, but saw his initial 12-month sentence reduced on appeal. The Cameroonian is due to become available to play again in early November.
