Former Fiorentina striker Francesco Baiano believes that champions Inter and previous winners Juventus go into the new season as favourites to lift the Scudetto.

With the new campaign fast approaching, Baiano assessed the competition and offered his opinion on new Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi, appointed following the departure of predecessor Antonio Conte.

In an interview with Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss yesterday, the ex-Derby County striker felt that the return of Massimiliano Allegri as coach could make a difference for Juventus.

“Of the main candidates, I’ll say Atalanta, who can no longer be considered a Cinderella story. I think the two favourites are Inter and Juve,” Baiano claimed.

“The Bianconeri were already strong and now with the arrival of Massimiliano Allegri, who has already won five league titles and knows the environment of the club, they will be the team to beat.

However, Baiano warned that Inter’s triumph last season could see them become complacent, and admitted that he was curious to see Inzaghi’s impact at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

“You must understand that Inter will have a full stomach after their success last year, and when you win you can feel as though you have achieved everything,” he continued.

“Simone Inzaghi came in, who is a very good coach, but we need to understand his impact at Inter.”
