Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi wants to keep midfielder Matias Vecino in the squad despite the player being a target for Napoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the player is seen by the coach as having an important role to play next season.

Vecino missed large portions of last season through injury and was on the margins of the squad for the Scudetto triumph, but he will hope to put fitness concerns past him next season, and the new head coach is ready to hand him a significant place in the team.

The new manager likes the 29-year-old’s profile and believes that the player can offer characteristics which are important to implementing his idea of football.

Napoli are thought to be tracking Vecino, and could step up their pursuit as they look to bring in a midfielder to replace the contributions of the injured Diego Demme, but Inzaghi has made clear that he does not want the player to leave.
